I loved math as a child.

I loved math as a child

I loved math as a child. That sounded so strange to so many people, I always wondered why they couldn’t see how fun numbers could be. I loved how the questions were like short stories. Every scenario was like a riddle or a mystery to solve. Each time, I would get an answer right, my face would light up with a huge smile; one more achievement – check! I wondered how people hated it so much, don’t they feel like achieving? Don’t they like creating creative scenarios in their head, mysteries to solve, puzzles to unwrap and untangle. Slowly, I realized, not everyone was made for math. Not everyone got their answers right, and instead of making them feel better, every single wrong answer, made them feel worse. I noticed people running away from everything that was a bit hard, a little unknown, somewhat difficult. And in that escape, they lost the opportunity to enjoy what could be a chance to learn and grow. Perhaps not everyone is made for math, but I refuse to believe, that everyone isn’t made for learning. Like the withered plant thrives on every drop of water that comes its way, a withered soul and an ideal mind, is meant to thrive on opportunities of growth and learning, on becoming better every passing day. I wish we didn’t have to get our answers wrong. Instead, I wish every puzzle was meant to teach us something right, for everyone.

The Road to Success

Road to Success

The Road to Success

Stop and look around. At the bus station. On the metro. On the roads. In the flood of cars we see everyday around us. What do you see? I see people running, constantly in motion, with worried expressions on their faces and a lost sense of why. Every person I come across is headed towards their destination, more often than not, it is either the office cubicle for their 9 to 5 job, or their school/college classroom for the quest of education.

But if you sit down with any one person, and ask why they spend every minute exhaustingly in abiding by the monotonous routine given to them through inheritance of the system, they are completely and utterly clueless.

Either a question of this nature will allow them to mark themselves as dumb and confused, or they were instantly label you as an ignorant fool to wonder why the world does what it does, and has been doing so since decades. Right?

7 billion people in this world, who are living by the same rules of success as the ones you are, how can they be wrong or deluded in the paths they have chosen as the ladder to the top. But, ask yourself, how many have actually made a name for themselves and achieved the phenomenal level of success man is capable of? How many have pursued a passion which created their supreme niche in the market and given this world a legacy to remember? A numbered few. There are signs for those who think.

We all are running, running after a concept of success, happiness, peace and prosperity which is not ours to begin with. In this rat race, we all forget the purpose of our personal existence and the fire that lies within to make miracles happen. We, instead, settle for ordinary, for the common and the standard. We let the passion inside us burn to dust and drown deep within bouts of unhappiness, depression, failures and regrets. What gives us the sheer power and dedication to break free from the chains of ‘what ifs’ and ‘buts’ we are continuously exposed.

Change Now or Regret Later

Making a big change in life is pretty scary. You know what's even scarier? Regret!

Which road will you choose?

Every individual experiences a moment of calling in his life, where he stands at a crossroad to weigh the cost of change to that of no change. He can either opt to explore on undiscovered paths and unravel the treasures found, or he can continue on his monotonous journey of followership, blind behind hundreds treading on the same roads traveled most and traveled often.

In that moment of calling, where God gives you a chance to re-evaluate your life and benefit from the miracles lying behind the phenomenon of growth and change, most step back in fear of what might happen. Others, only take the plunge when those around them have done the same, so nothing unknown remains. Only few are lucky enough to take the leap of Faith, without a harness or safety net and land in heaps of opportunities awaiting these leaders and risk-takers.

This one moment saves you from regrets that most indulge in till their last breaths, hoping they had heard the calling, wishing they could go back to the crossroads and choose the scarier path, dreaming of the chance to relive their life without fear. These people are countless, lying on their deathbeds, nobodies, with common life stories and endless discontentment. The other group, is few, scattered, with tales unheard, some untold, some remembered as legacies and forces to be reckoned with, with lessons to impart and lives that are revered long after they are gone.

The difference is one and simple – some chose to hear the calling and welcome the new in their lives, no matter how horrifying it seemed at first, others, stayed hidden in the shadows of safety, never able to shine bright.

Shine out of the Crowd – Yes You Can!

Yes You Can!

Nowadays, a man’s drive and motivation to achieve is constantly put into doubt and question by countless obstacles in his road to success. Day in and day out, he is faced with numerous challenges, negativity and uncertainty which puts his passion into a whirlwind of ifs and maybes. Every time one bounces on a trampoline of hope and inspiration, he is pulled back down by either his own lack of confidence in his ability to reach the goals he has set for himself, or by the surrounding crowd of failures who are tied up in their own vicious cycles. Amidst the thousands who read self-help books on gaining motivation to succeed and listen to hundreds of seminars on the same, only a handful are lucky enough to fight the beast within which tells them they can’t do something. Therefore, despite immense capability and a dire need that every individual reaches his utmost potential, we are left with a majority of followers behind the fortunate few leaders.

The sad reality hits once more, when we walk around with labels we are continuously judged on the basis of, let it be of the gender we carry, or the religious affiliation we have, or merely the nationality we hold. Our failure is indistinctively categorized as the failure of a man/woman, Muslim/Christian, Pakistani/Indian. Success, hence, is no longer a personal matter, but a responsibility we have on the account of being whoever we are and acquiring whichever identity we do. Ask yourself, how many times you scroll through a list of highly successful people and notice the number of women or Muslims in the compilation, wondering why the ratio is such and accepting it as fate that our type cannot reach the pinnacle as easily as others can.

We provide excuses to ourselves for the lack of success we see around us, and find solace in the rarity of the success stories in our society – simply eradicating the will to achieve more, and reducing our life to a common, useless existence. But are we willing to live the rest of our lives as a mere number amongst billions or do we wish to shine and leave a legacy for decades to come? If you choose the latter, every time life reminds you that it is tough and difficult, fight back stronger than before with the understanding of the need to do so. Every time you are reminded of the hardships you will have to face to climb every step on the ladder of greatness, stop looking down below and start exploring the possibilities which lie at the horizon. Every time you hear someone tell you, you can NOT do something, firmly respond: YES I CAN!

Informational, Success Lessons

Children have this impeccable creativity that allows them to imagine the most mundane of circumstances as the most fantastical of opportunities to laugh, enjoy and learn from. Their tendency to magically form an entire house out of pillows or use the simplest of items in the most miraculous of ways serves as the most apparent of evidences for the innate ability that lies within all of us: the innate ability to grow, to explore opportunities, to imagine, to create and to build out of nothingness.Just like the child who requires no fancy toys or expensive gadgets to make the most out of the present, man has the capacity to benefit from the countless opportunities all around him, void of the superficial adornments we believe to be so utterly significant – a pocket full of cash, a fancy car and the expensive, branded suit. Because, essentially, man has been born with a magnificent trait of creating his own reality. Man has been born as an entrepreneur.

Entrepreneurship is not the ownership of a business. Entrepreneurship is a mindset, it is a lifestyle, it is an attitude, and it is having a certain perspective of life which reaps profits and productivity. Entrepreneurship is the ability to gauge when a seemingly barren situation can be made fertile. It is the ability to decipher when and how others can be offered an advantage from that diverse nature of chances to improve their quality of life.

Entrepreneurship is freedom. It is the freedom from economic slavery which every single individual nowadays is running after – the job. It is the independence to make a living as you please and serve humanity as you will. It is the autonomy in deciding where you wish to invest your time and efforts and how you wish to do so. It is not being bounded by the ifs and maybes, nor by the fears and apprehensions. It is the leap of Faith.

We have been trained to think of life as the game where we can only really be the players fighting for survival, as opposed to the masters behind the puzzle. We have been taught to work for others to earn for ourselves, not realizing that life was about working for ourselves and earning for others. We have become so lost in the trivial, that we have lost sight of the truth. We are so dependent on the expectations and opinions of the world, that we have forgotten how to exist on our own thoughts.

So, Dear Readers, start taking charge of your life and stop waiting for the perfect time to get your jumpstart, because honestly, and no one is going to tell you this, but there is no perfect time. There will be no time when you have just the right amount of money, the right amount of resources, the right amount of support and the right amount of energy to turn possibilities into realities. Because, there is no right or wrong, there is only here and now.

The only thing you will ever truly need to become an entrepreneur, is the drive, the motivation, the perspective and the imagination – the entrepreneurial mindset. So, think big, take risks, explore the markets and become your own boss by freeing yourself from the chains of the ordinary man and entering into the extraordinary!

Traffic Signal and Lessons of Success

Traffic Signal and Lessons of Success

A few days back, on a busy traffic signal in Lahore, I got a chance to distribute brochures for our program ‘Money Matters’. It was a new and amazing experience with many lessons to learn and a lot of leads to think about. Here I am sharing some key lessons that everyone, who wants to be successful, should learn from this.

People are conformists. When I was distributing brochures, I would go to cars, knock on the windows to hand over a brochure to the person in driving seat. In a row, if the first-person refused to take the brochure, the whole line behind him did the same.

Have you ever seen sheep wandering around? They also do the same. If the first sheep takes a right turn, the whole crowd will follow him. What is this? This behavior is called ‘conformity’. Humans have a great tendency to avoid risks and to follow the tested roads and common trends. They don’t have the courage to stand out and prove that they are different. When we allow ourselves to conform to what our friends, family, or society asks of us, we lose the ability to grow into our own persons. If you want to be successful, dare to be different. Being different is being happy with who and what we are and want to be.

And when it is said to them, “Follow what Allah has revealed,” they say, “Rather, we will follow that which we found our fathers doing.” Even though their fathers understood nothing, nor were they guided?

Al-Quran (2:170)

The second lesson which I want to share is about having a positive attitude. While distributing brochures, a moment came when most of the people were not turning their window glasses down for my brochure. Why? Because it was a hot day and I was heavily sweating. My inner feelings reflected through my body language. All of a sudden, some young guy in a car cracked a joke and I started smiling. At that moment, with that smiley face, when I moved towards the next cars, I found people more receptive.

Remember! If you are traveling on ‘The Road to Success’, you need to be spirited, strong, and courageous to handle all the hardships that are part of it. People will judge you, criticize you and reject you, embrace it with a smiling face. Your boss has a rough attitude towards you, your colleagues make fun of you, your customers are not responding to your product the way you want them to, your relatives and friends are disrespectful to you, you are at a point in life where you can’t fulfill your family demands, never lose hope. Be optimistic and always think positively, it will generate and attract more positive energy towards you. Try to bring out learning opportunities in every problem. After few years when you look back, you will be grateful to Allah (SWT) for all these troubles because they would have contributed a lot to your growth and development.

“For indeed, with hardship comes ease.”

Al-Quran (94:5)
